William Crawford Reagan September 10, 1934 - July 21, 2011 Known as 'Bill' or 'PawPaw' to his friends and 'Dad', 'Granddad' or 'PaPa' to his family, Bill was born and raised in Marshall, Texas. The only child of the late Paul and Helen Reagan, he married Betty Jo Green in 1954.
From 1953-1957, Bill served our country as a member of the Air Force in Massachusetts and Japan. Upon completion of his service, he moved to Garland, Texas where he and Betty raised four children. A software programmer at Collins Radio (Rockwell-Collins) for 32 years, Bill eventually retired to engage with his true passion - softball. Throughout a career that spanned over 40 years, he played fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball which led to serving as an Umpire, Umpire in Chief, Tournament Director, and Church Commissioner. He was also one of the originating members of the GASA board. Bill was awarded USSSA National Umpire in Chief in 1989, USSSA Director of the Year in 1998, and was inducted into the Texas USSSA Hall of Fame in 1997. In 2003, the white field at the M.G. (Jerry) Carter Softball Complex was dedicated in his honor for his contribution to the Garland Softball Association over the years. In addition to his role in Garland Softball, Bill also served on the Garland Parks and Recreation Board from 1984-1991, and as a Deacon at Eastern Hills Baptist Church where he worked with the RA's, youth devotionals, and most recently as a Senior Adult Sunday School song leader.
Bill will forever be remembered by his wife of 57 years, Betty Reagan, his beloved children, Connie Reagan, Laura Singbusch and husband Bob, Tommy Reagan and wife Paula, Keith Reagan and wife Lisa, cherished grandchildren Billy Reagan and wife Leann, Jamie Hollenbeck and husband Darren, Christie Singbusch, and Kathy Yeager, and treasured great grandchildren Dalton Smith, Kyleigh Reagan, and Parker Hollenbeck, along with countless other friends and family who were blessed to know him.
Although softball is where he spent most of his time, Bill loved all sports and was an avid fan of the Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks, and Dallas Cowboys, and could often be found cheering them on at their games. In his later years, he also took up golf and even achieved a hole in one to add to his record. One of his favorite past times was traveling and camping. He frequently visited East Texas, and traveled around the US.
Bill spent his life serving the Lord and those around him. The words of his favorite hymn sum up his wish for himself, and all he encountered:
Keep telling the story, be faithful and true; Let others see Jesus in you.
