Age 80, passed from this life on May 25, 2011 in Plano, Texas with his family by his side. Pastor Bill was born May 21, 1931 in Little Rock, Arkansas to William Jasper and Mable (Brook) Mercer.
He has lived in the Dallas area since 2000. He served as an active minister for 38 years in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana. He received his theological education from Bethany Nazarene College in Bethany, Oklahoma.
Pastor Bill served in the US Army at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois.
He married his lovely bride Shirley Jean Holderfield on March 11, 1955 in North Little Rock, Arkansas. He was also a member of the Lions Club.
Pastor Bill leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife Shirley Jean Mercer, children Roy Lee Mercer, Janet LaFern Mercer and Andrea Rhiannon Ward, grandchildren Wesley William, Charlotte, Jacob, Kiara and Sadi and Alex Ward, sister Madeline LaFern and David Kerr, sister, Emily Janet Wright, sister-in-law, Ethel Lorene Dyer, brother-in-law, Gary Lloyd Holderfield and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Paula Jean Mercer, son Rev. "Brad" William Bradford Mercer, sisters-in-law Vivian Maxine Bowman and Helen Hoskin, brothers-in-law Howard Monroe Holderfield and James Henry Holderfield.
VISITATION will be 6 " 8 P.M. Friday May 27, 2011 at Charles W. Smith & Sons Sachse Chapel, 2925 Fifth Street in Sachse, Texas, 972-414-5050.
FUNERAL SERVICE will be 10 A.M. Saturday May 28, 2011 at Richard Church of the Nazarene, 2101 E. Renner Road at Jupiter in Richardson, Texas. Rev. Scott Sherwood will officiate the services.
Interment with Military Honors will be 11:15 A.M. Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at DFW National Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
