William Joe McCoy

William Joe McCoy also lovingly known as Papa Joe, 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday, June 17, 2018. Papa Joe was surrounded by his family in prayer and hymns.

Joe was born July 13, 1935, in Robstown, Texas to the parents of James Samuel and Clara Vela (Thomas) McCoy. Joe grew up and went to school in Banquete and Carthage, Tx. He attended Texas A&M-(once an Aggie, always an Aggie at heart), and finished at Southwest Texas with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture. Upon graduation, Joe was drafted into the US Army, where he honorably served his country. He then was employed by the Soil Conservation Service in Lancaster, Ca. Where he met the woman of his dreams, Norma Lee McCutcheon. They were married on February 12, 1966 in El Segundo, Ca. He worked for the US Forest Service in Redding, Ca, Lufkin, Tx. and Gainesville, Ga. Many lifelong friendships were made along the way. He finished his career with the State of Georgia EPA in Soil and Watershed Division. Papa Joe and Nana retired at the end of 2000 and after 25 years in Gainesville, Ga. moved to Murphy,Tx to be close to their children-daughter, Yvette Woltman and son in law Kirk Woltman, and son, Keith McCoy most of all, their five precious grandchildren: Austin Woltman, McKennon Woltman, Kaitlin McCoy, Brianna Woltman and Ryan McCoy.


Joe's two greatest loves were his family and his service to the Lord. He spent his whole life serving others and enjoying every minute of it. He served as a teacher, deacon and elder at Central Church of Christ-Lufkin, Tx, Atlanta Road Church of Christ-Gainesville, Ga. and Wylie Church of Christ- Wylie, Tx. Joe had the heart of a servant leader serving in the church bus ministry program both in Lufkin and Gainesville. He served on the Board of the North Georgia Bible Camp for a number of years. Joe helped to establish Camp Wetoga- a summer christian camp, dedicated to teaching and ministering God's word to children.


Joe is survived by his devoted wife, Norma McCoy of 52 years and children and grandchildren. Three sisters: Jean Rhiddlehoover of Spring Hill, Fl,; Joyce Anderson and brother in law Danny of Carthage, Tx,; and Harriet Williams and brother in law Jerry of Grandbury, Tx. along with many nieces, and nephews. Joe is proceed in death by his parents, and brother in law, Bruce Rhiddlehoover.
