William Yancy Boykin, Sr.


William Yancy Boykin, Sr. was born on July 3, 1932 in Monticello, Arkansas to George W. and Oma Boykin. He went to be with his Heavenly Father on June 16, 2014. Bill joined the Arkansas National Guard at 15 years of age, graduated from Drew Central High School, and was promoted to sergeant before enlisting in the United States Air Force, serving from Texas to North Africa.
In 1954 he realized one of his most important life goals, and through the GI Bill, enrolled in college at Arkansas A&M in Monticello, graduating in 1958; he was an avid Razorback sports fan. William Boykin then applied and was accepted to Law School at the University of Arkansas, class of 1959. Before beginning his studies, he took a temporary job with Mack Trucks in Dallas until the beginning of school, serving as assistant to the General Manager. The management quickly recognized his potential and offered him a raise so big he decided to stay with Mack. Dad's career flourished as he provided dedicated service in various leadership roles for 27 years. His branch office was recognized as Mack Trucks' #1 Branch. He was a 33rd degree Mason.
William Yancy Boykin, Sr. was preceded in death by his parents George Washington and Oma Eva Boykin, and by his grandson Scott Thomas Boykin, son of Bill and Kristi Boykin.
Papa, as his family called him, met and married the love of his life, Barbara Andrews in 1961. They raised four children, each one greatly loved by Papa and Mimi. Bill Boykin is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Barbara; daughter Cynthia and husband Michael; son Bill Boykin, Jr. and wife Kristi; daughter Julie and husband Steven; son Lance Boykin and wife Andrea. Papa is also survived by 12 grandchildren; Grant Boykin, Christopher Fore, Jessica Spurgers, Joseph Fore, Carilee Fore, Paige Boykin, Hudson Spurgers, Heather Spurgers, Jennilyn Fore, Brady Boykin, Beth Spurgers, and Samantha Spurgers; sisters, Della Jordan, Mary Harrell, and Mattie Tucker.
