Wendell Earl Van Horn

February 8, 1929 — December 4, 2016

Van Horn, Wendell Earl passed away on December 4, 2016 at the age of 87 in the city of Garland, Texas where he had lived for over 15 years.





Born February 8, 1929 on his parent's farm in Cantrill, Iowa Wendell was the fourth of eight children born to Earl and Alice (Kinnamon) Van Horn. He was baptized and confirmed in the First Christian Church, then graduated from Council Bluffs A.L. High School in 1946.





From 1946-48 Wendell served in the Marine Corps. Then to 1952 attended Iowa State College in Ames, and then graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering. Through the ROTC he served in the Army Signal Corps as a 2nd Lt. 1952-53.





In 1959 he was united in marriage to Merelyn Padgett in Memphis, TN. They were blessed with four children: Sherelyn E., Teresa P., Carolyn G., and Earl P. They were divorced in 1975.





Wendell was employed with the Quaker Oats Company, Chemical Division, for over 40 years before retirement.





In 1981 he was married to Renee Rex, and they were married for 15 years before she passed away in 1996.





Survivors include his four children, and their spouses, six grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, brothers Dean Van Horn, Richard Van Horn, and sisters Charlotte Christiansen, and Jere Green. His loving companion Gerry Fagg.The family asks that memorials be made to the Texas Lions Camp, P.O. Box 290247, Kerrville, Texas 78029
