Warren Dale Buckner

Warren Dale Buckner, 93, of Grafton, Wisconsin died peacefully on Wednesday, January 7, 2015.
Warren was born on November 4, 1921 in Linton, Indiana, the only child of Ora and Ethel (Strickland) Buckner. He lived in Dugger, Indiana and moved with his family to Huntington, Indiana during the Great Depression. He grew up on his parents' farm. Warren enlisted in the army on October 31, 1942. On August 3, 1943 he married the love of his life, Elva Caudill, in North Augusta, South Carolina. A few days later, Warren was shipped off to fight in WWII. He served in the 935th Field Artillery Battalion as a Gun Crewman Medium Artillery. During the war he fought in battles and campaigns in Africa, France, Italy and Germany. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal WWII, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon with 5 Bronze Service Stars. After twenty-seven months of serving overseas, he was honorably discharged from the army on October 31, 1945 with the rank of Corporal.
Warren returned home where he started his married life. He was an excellent carpenter and built their first home and continued to build homes with his father-in-law and brother-in-law. Warren worked for Fisher Body, a division of General Motors, in the Tool Crib and retired from Fisher Body after twenty-five years of service.
Warren enjoyed building and remodeling homes, buying and working on cars, especially sports cars, dancing to Big Band music, traveling, golfing and fishing. He was a devoted husband and father. He cherished the time he spent with his wife of seventy-one years, children, daughters-in-law, son-in-law, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. He was a wonderful host, hosting many barbecues and family picnics. He loved to go to their cabin on Goose Lake in Warsaw, Indiana where he spent many hours fishing and laughing. Warren had a wonderful sense of humor and a quick wit. He knew how to have a good time and he truly enjoyed life. He had a kind heart and would help anyone in need. He taught his children the value of hard work, laughter, kindness, family and friends.
Warren is survived by his two sons, Tom and wife Lee Buckner, Phoenix, AZ; Steve and wife Lonna Buckner, Rockwall, TX; daughter, Jill Gallogly and husband Tom, Cedarburg, WI; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren, cousins and friends.
A memorial service will take place in Marion, Indiana at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cedarburg Preschool, N19 W6717 Commerce Ct., Cedarburg, WI 53012.
