Wanda Lou Morris, also known as Mom, Mimi, Wanda Lou, Sis. Morris, or Aunt Wanda, passed away on January 21, 2025 in Garland TX.
Wanda was born in Pampa Texas. Her parents were Lula and OL Morris. She graduated from Pampa High School and began her career as a secretary for an insurance company in Pampa.
Shortly thereafter, she began traveling on the evangelistic field with a minister and his daughter, Rev JB Smith and Inez. In revival campaigns, she ministered to the people as a musician; pianist, accordionist, organist, and vocalist. While on the evangelistic field she met her future husband, James Morris who was also an evangelist. They continued traveling the country preaching and singing in many churches.
After finishing a year on the evangelistic field and the birth of their daughter, Renee’, they began pastoring Assembly of God churches. Together, they pastored Faith Tabernacle--Farmington NM; First Assembly of God—Highlands TX; First Assembly of God—Grand Prairie, TX; First Assembly of God—Panama City FL; and North Central Assembly of God, Richardson TX.
At each of the churches, she taught Sunday School, played the piano, organ and accordion, directed the church choir, worked in the women’s and girl’s ministries on the church plus the myriad of other duties that are part of being a Pastor’s wife. Each Saturday night, she would type her husband’s Sunday morning sermon from the handwritten yellow legal pad notes.
Wanda also worked for Southwest Land & Title as Closing Secretary and as Membership Secretary at Christian Medical and Dental Society in Richardson TX. After retiring from full-time employment, she continued to work temporary assignments with Kelly Services. When computers entered the workplace, she embraced learning how to use them including desktop publishing.
When she was not doing housework, Wanda enjoyed sewing, cooking, her special gift of hospitality, computer solitaire, crossword puzzles, playing the piano, and church work. If she was home during the evening, she faithfully watched Wheel of Fortune. She loved working with plants and maintaining her outdoor flower beds. She loved when the flowers were in full bloom around the house. She was continuously nursing potted plants back to thriving leaves and blooms.
During the years, she mentored many young preacher’s wives and ladies. Wanda believed that a minister’s wife needed as great a calling as the minister for their field of work. She displayed her talent and calling as a minister’s wife by her love for people and with an understanding heart--always sharing Jesus with anyone she met.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Lula and OL Morris and her husband of 61 years, James.
She is survived by daughter, Renee’ Hyatt (Steve) and son, Ken Morris (Lorie); grandchildren Chad Hyatt, Nicole Hyatt, Eric Morris (Natalie), Keith Morris (Kristen), and Chelsea Morris; and great grandchildren Ella Morris, Winston Morris, Josephine Morris, Malcolm Morris, Everett Morris and Adeline Morris. She also leaves on this earth many extended family members, church staff that served in the above churches whom are like family members, choir members, and many, many friends.
