Verlyn Ballard of Parker, Texas passed away February 1st, 2022 after a brief illness. Funeral Services will be held at Big Springs Baptist Church in Garland, Texas, Tuesday, February 8th, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Greg Oppenhuis officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Big Springs Cemetery in Garland, Texas. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 8th at 1:00 p.m. at Big Springs Baptist Church, Garland. Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home of Sachse, Texas is in charge of arrangements.

Verlyn was born May 16, 1939, in Somervell County, Texas to Wesley and Ruth Lee of Glen Rose, Texas. She grew up in Glen Rose and graduated from Glen Rose High School. She continued her education at Tarleton State University and the University of North Texas, graduating with a degree in Education.

It was at Tarleton State University that she first met her future husband, J.W. Ballard, but it wasn't until they both had transferred to the University of North Texas that they began dating. In January of 1961 they were wed and eventually settled in Garland, Texas to make their first home. It was there that the couple started attending Big Springs Baptist Church, which would remain their church home for the duration of their marriage.

In 1965, Verlyn and J.W. moved to their current residence in Parker, Texas. In 1971 Verlyn began teaching kindergarten at Kiddie Kollege in Plano and eventually transitioned to teaching kindergarten at the First Baptist Church of Plano, where she taught until she retired.

Her interests ranged from gardening and canning, homemaking and sewing. She was active in her church and spent many years as a Sunday School teacher for Pre-School aged children.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, J.W. Ballard; son, Dwane Ballard of Frisco; son, Scott Ballard and daughter-in-law, Marlo Ballard of Fairview; granddaughter Janie Ballard of Frisco; grandson, Grant Ballard of Plano; granddaughter Shaelyn Ballard of Houston; sister, Gaye Liggett of Duncanville; sister, Judy Lytle of Haskell and sister, Elaine Ferrier of Kyle.
