Velton Trent Wilson

June 14, 1955 — February 18, 2014

Velton Trent Wilson, 58, after a long and valiant struggle with kidney disease, was called to his eternal home on February 18, 2014. A native son of Collin County, Velton was born to John C. and Winnie Wilson on June 14, 1955 at the Wilson farmstead southeast of McKinney. The Wilson family subsequently moved to Fairview, Texas, where Velton attended high school and worked after school and during the summers at Ramey's Garage in McKinney. After he graduated high school, Velton found employment with Custom Distributors, an Electrical Supply company in Plano. In June of 1978, Custom Distributors closed, prompting Velton and two of his coworkers to decide to establish their own electric supply business in Plano. They pooled their savings, borrowed money, leased a building, and C&W Electric Supply Company was born. In time, Velton bought out his partners and became the sole proprietor of C&W Electric Supply Co., which grew into the major commercial supplier of electrical components in Plano that it is today. Astute in business, but also compassionate and caring by nature, Velton has been a source of assistance to countless people who needed a helping hand to get started in business or just to traverse one of life's rough spots. Family members refer to this quality as being a mirror image of the traits Velton's father had always displayed. On June 27, 1992, Velton married Lena Fay Taliaferro. Four years later, the family grew with the birth of twins, Courtney Grace and John Caleb. Velton was also a longtime, faithful member of Central Baptist Church in McKinney. Velton had many interests outside his electrical supply business. Having developed an early fascination with clock mechanisms, he began to collect and restore antique pocket watches and clocks. He was also an authorized distributor for W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co. and maintained an impressive inventory of both production and antique pocketknives and was highly regarded for his knowledge of antique cutlery, edged tools, pocket watches and firearms. Velton is survived by his wife Lena, children Courtney Grace and John Caleb Wilson; brothers, Johnny Wilson and his wife, Louetta of Princeton, Texas and Larry Wilson and his wife, Joyce, of Princeton; may nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Velton was preceded in death by his father, John C. Wilson and his mother, Winnie Wilson. The Wilson family will receive visitors on Friday night, February 21, 2014 from 7:00-9:00 pm at Central Baptist Church, 2142 CR 337, McKinney, Texas. Funeral services will be held at Central Baptist Church on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at the Wilson Chapel Cemetery in Lowry Crossing. The service will be officiated by Reverend Jim Taliaferro and Reverend Jimmy Lang.
