VELMA ELIZABETH MILLER, 95

Velma Elizabeth Miller entered Heaven’s gates where she was greeted by her Lord and Savior on March 23, 2018. She passed while at her home of 56 years in Garland, Texas. She was born in Petros, Tennessee on November 21, 1922 to John Mitchell Kington and Arta Tipton Kington.

At the age of 19, she surrendered her life to the Lord. She glorified God by being a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Velma was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. Gathering around her table was a memory by many! After her youngest daughter started school, she spent 20 years working at Rockwell.

Velma spent most of her church years fervently serving God at First Baptist Church Sachse. In her early years, she sang special music with two of her daughters and was also part of a quartet. She served in many ministries, including over 33 years as a kindergarten Sunday School teacher. Most all of the youth called her "Grandma" as she traveled many mission trips as their cook. Velma is survived by her four daughters, Jane Giddens of Williamston, NC; Joan Boyle (Lewis) of Lakehills, TX; Joyce Hawkins (Jack) of Wylie, TX and Judy Baker of Garland, TX. She lived her last year in Lakehills with her daughter Joan. She also left behind 11 grandchildren Jody Bickerstaff (Bracky), Todd Wilson (Pattie), Melodee Gruber (J.), Jeffery Boyle, Shane Saulters (Shawna), Stephanie Meeks (Donnie), Larry Hawkins, Nathan Hawkins, Cristina Valdez (Pete), Kelly Baker and Jonathan Baker. She had 23 great grandchildren, 3 great, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Velma was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Virgil "Royce" Miller. They met in the Navy and married October 21, 1944 in Oakland, California where they were aviation mechanics during WWII. She has also reunited in Heaven with her sister, twin brothers and parents.

Family will be greeting friends on Monday evening, April 2nd from 6 – 8pm at Charles Smith Funeral Home, 2925 Fifth Street, Sachse. Celebration services with military honors will be on Tuesday, April 3rd at 1:00pm at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 16167 County Road 665, Farmersville.
