Troy Watkins

April 5, 1935 — October 4, 2023

Garland

On Wednesday October 4, 2023, Troy Watkins was ushered into heaven, his eternal home!

Troy was born on April 5, 1935, in Kilgore, Texas.  The family of six children with their mother Marie moved to Lavon, Texas upon the sudden death of their father in order to be near their mother’s brother Bruce Webb and his family.  Troy was just 9 years old at the time and around 14 years of age Troy accepted Christ into his life.

After high school Troy served for eight years in the United States Air Force Reserve from 1953-1961 where he was in the 221st Radio Relay Squadron with an Honorable Discharge.  He also worked during this time for Sears Roebuck, Dr Pepper Company and then with Ford Motor Company for 13 years until he purchased a Texaco Service Station in Plano, Texas on Ave K at 14th Street where he proudly wore his signature “STAR” on his uniform.

After marriage to Glenda Nedbalek on July 28, 1961, Troy and Glenda moved to Plano, Texas and raised their family of four children.  From 1961 to 1967 they faithfully served and attended Plano First Assembly of God with Pastor Leonard Allgood, where Troy served as Usher, Deacon, Christ Ambassador Leader, and Sunday School Teacher.  Troy and Glenda also participated in the Jail Ministry in McKinney, Texas where Troy would lead the songs while Glenda played the accordion.

After selling Texaco Service Station and moving to Garland, Texas Troy purchased in 1971 “Able Moving Company” from his father-in-law John Nedbalek, who was also the Pastor of Faith Tabernacle Church where Troy served as the Song Leader, Sunday School Teacher and involved with a church ministry with Dallas Rescue Mission.

Later, the family attended and joined Dallas First Assembly of God in 1973 where Troy served as Usher, Deacon, Church Bus Driver, Sunday School Team Teaching and were faithful members for over 50 years.

Troy’s daily enjoyments started with reading his Bible, watching the early morning stock reports and news then ending the evening with a good Western Show in his easy chair.

Troy is survived by his wife Glenda Watkins of 62 years of marriage along with his twin brother Coy, Benny, and June Nance. Troy and Glenda had four children.  Janet Finnegan and husband Mike, Byron, Cheryl, Jonathan, and wife Christyne.  Along with two GRANDsons Garrett and Clay Finnegan.
