Thomas Alvarado III, 63, of Nevada, Texas, was called home by the Lord on Tuesday, December 1, 2020, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Lovingly known by his family and friends as "Maverick", Alvarado was born in San Antonio, Texas on March 7, 1957, to Josephine and Thomas Alvarado Jr. He proudly, and honorably, served as a Garland police officer from 1978-2010, earning the Medal of Valor in 1990. A man who exemplified "Work Hard, Play Hard", he was never without a hobby. Band, fishing, boating, Tae Kwon Do, dancing, and golf were some of the activities he enjoyed over the years. One he held especially dear to his heart was riding in police motorcycle rodeos with the traffic unit of Garland PD. But his favorite, and what he was locally famous for, was karaoke. Song lyrics were as meaningful to him as poetry.
Maverick loved deeply, and his friends were considered family. He was an immensely proud father and grandfather, insistent on making memories and spending quality time. He loved Jesus, Texas, his cowboy hat and boots, and was always up for some good shenanigans. He will be remembered for his smile and laughter, both of which could quite literally light up the room.
Maverick is survived by fiance, Debbie Thompson of Nevada, Texas; two daughters, Leia "Nici" Altieri and her husband, J.T. of Wylie, Texas, and Kaylee Alvarado of Nixa, Missouri; grandchildren, Jaxson Altieri, and Madison Altieri; sister, Alice Castillo and her husband Gabriel of Dallas, Texas; sister, Bertha Tenorio and her husband Henry of Dallas, Texas; sister, Juliet Wittwer and her husband John of Dallas, Texas; sister, Janet Alvarado of San Antonio, Texas; sister, Diana Alvarado of Dallas, Texas; brother, Ramiro Alvarado and his wife Irma of San Antonio, Texas; Jeremy White of Nevada, Texas, Amanda White of Nevada, Texas and her daughter, Brooke Need; multiple nieces and nephews, as well as many loving and loyal friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Alvarado Jr.; mother, Josephine Alvarado; paternal grandparents, Tomas and Berta Alvarado; maternal grandparents, Maria de Jesus and Pedro Zaragoza.
Visitation will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at First Baptist Wylie, with the service immediately following at 1:00 p.m. He will then be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in Lavon at 2:00 p.m.
