Teresa Luanne York, 77, of Blue Ridge, Texas, passed away, surrounded by family, on September 3, 2021, after a battle with Alzheimer's.
Teresa was born on February 1, 1944, to Margery and Harry K. Ping in Danville, Illinois. She spent many of her young years with her grandmother, Mildred Cunningham. When she met Joseph York at Douglas Park Church of the Nazarene in Danville, Mildred was their Sunday School teacher and Joe's dad was the Pastor of the church. The two married on June 15, 1963, and had four children: Sherra, Kerra, Darren and Terra.
As a teacher of Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, Teen Choir director, leader of Girl Scouts ad Cub Scouts, owner of a home-operated day care, and later as a Special Ed Paraprofessional in Wylie ISD, Teresa touched many lives inside and outside her home. Teresa's loving influence sparked in her own children confidence and passion to help others, making us into the people we are today. There was always space at her boisterous dinner table for another mouth, or a spare bed for a friend in need.
Teresa was predeceased by her grandmother, Mildred, her mother and stepfather Margery and Bill Downey, her stepmother and father Rosalie and Harry K. Ping, her sister Sharon Carter and her brother Gene Maines. She is survived by her husband, Joe, her four children, fourteen grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and six siblings.
