Susan Elsie Townsend

Susan “Susie” ElsieTownsend was born in Houston, Texas March 3, 1942 to Edwin Tedford and Evelyn Van Voast. Her mother passed away in 1948. Later Susie was adopted by her Aunt and Uncle, Elsie and Lee Potter, and she lovingly referred to them as her parents. Susie died Tuesday, March 27, 2018 in the Presbyterian Hospital in Kaufman, Texas. Susie loved to fish and enjoyed being at or on the lake as much as possible. She would go hunting and enjoyed fresh vegetables from her garden. Susie’s pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Susie survived a battle with cancer and was known for being kind, giving, selfless and amazingly strong. Susie considered her friends to be family. She often spoke fondly of her family from Dresser Industries, where she worked for 30 years and how much she loved them all. Susie was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Wayne Townsend in June 2014 and her grandson, Charles Potter July 27,2011. Her survivors include her children Carol Lynette Cross of Lone Oak, Deborah Kay Hughbanks of Forney, Floyd Wayne Townsend of Chandler, Oklahoma and Delores Ann Townsend; grandchildren, Amber Tyree, Heather Newsome, Laura Lockwood, Justin Edwards, Jordan Edwards, Matthew Townsend, Patrick Townsend, Colin Townsend, and Samantha Dubois; seven (7) great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Carry the Load or to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).

Susie will be interred with her husband, Jerry, at the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery.There will be a Memorial Service at 10:00 am on Tuesday April 3, 2018 at Eastgate Funeral Home Chapel 1910 Eastgate Drive Garland, Texas 75041. Inurnment will follow at DFW National Cemetery at 2:00 pm on Wednesday.
