Captain Stephen Ronald Hill, 42, of Wylie, TX, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer. Stephen was born on December 20, 1977, in Dallas, TX, to Ron and Mary Hill and grew up in Garland, TX.
He joined the Richardson Fire Department in May of 1999. Stephen was a respected Captain at the time of his death. During his career at the Richardson Fire Department, he earned a TCFP Fire Certification at Collin County Community College Fire Academy and an Associate of Applied Science, Fire Science degree from Columbia Southern University. He was a member of the Texas Task Force 2 and achieved the following certifications: Master Firefighter, Driver/Operator, Incident Safety Officer, Master Inspector, Fire Instructor 2, Fire Officer 1-4, Rope Rescue Technician, Confined Space Rescue Technician, Swift Water Rescue Technician, Structural Collapse Rescue Technician, Trench Rescue Technician, Vehicle and Machinery Rescue Technician and Hazardous Materials Technician. He had three life saves during his time with the department.
Stephen was a devout Christian who loved music, comic books, reading and being with his family and friends. Stephen loved you as you are, he cared about what was in your heart and about always doing the right thing. Most of all, Stephen was a loving husband and father. His family took priority, and he loved playing with his kids, attending gymnastics meets and baseball games, hosting family dance parties, game nights and movie nights, roughhousing with Ellie and building Legos(r) with Jack.
The family would like to thank the Richardson Fire Department Station 4 and the entire RFD family for their support. Thanks also to Dr. Brian Berryman and the exceptional staff at Texas Oncology and Baylor University Medical Center for their loving care.
Stephen is survived by his wife of seventeen years, Natalie, daughter, Ellie (12), son, Jack (9), loving parents, Ron and Mary Hill, brothers, Daniel (Lindsey) and Patrick, nephew, Corin, niece, Jade, and beloved in-laws, Mike and Tam Sandlin. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 2, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church Richardson located at 1001 N. Central Expressway, Richardson, TX.
Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, June 3, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church Richardson located at 1001 N. Central Expressway, Richardson.
A procession to Sachse Cemetery will immediately follow the service. The cemetery is located just behind Charles Smith and Sons Funeral Home at 2925 5th Street, Sachse, TX.
