Simon "Sy" Sarkisian
October 8, 1930 - August 19, 2014
Simon "Sy" Sarkisian was born in Providence, Rhode Island on October 8, 1930. His father ran a small grocery store for 48 years that opened up to the street under their home. He helped his parents run the store after he got out of school for many years. He met and married Inez Poston in 1961 and they were married until her death in 2006.
Sy was a great talker. He never met a stranger. He worked many jobs over his lifetime which included running his own hamburger cafe from 1965 until the early 70's which had "Home of the Sy Burger" written on the front window. He was the manager of a snack bar at Spartan Atlantic Dept Store and was a Division Manager for Orange Julius. His career ended when he retired as a residential painter.
His love of animals was very evident by the homeless stray cats he would feed. He loved feeding the birds and squirrels that visited his backyard each day and even had a family of raccoons visit many evenings!
He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Gant and her husband Bryan of Dallas, Texas and their two sons Joshua, a U.S. Marine, and Nathan, currently a sophomore in High School. He is also survived by his stepson, Tony Mosley and his wife Lynda of Chickasha, Oklahoma and their two sons Wayne and Bryan. He has four great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister Lucy Ely of California and his brother Albert Sarkisian of Rhode Island.
