Sid Richard Morris was born March 20, 1936 in Nevada, Texas as the younger brother to Ben Morris and the son of Richard Herman and Evelyn Morris. He entered Heaven’s gates after a brief illness on April 12, 2025.
After moving to Garland, Texas and graduating from Garland High School in 1954, he attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biblical History, Theology, and Counseling in 1958. Baylor University was also where he met and married Brenda Hopkins from St. Albans, West Virginia.
Following graduation from Baylor, The Morris’s moved to Louisville, Kentucky where he attended Southern Baptist Theological Seminary earning his Masters of Divinity Degree in Theology and Pastoral Counseling in 1964. Following pastorates in several locations in the state of Kentucky including Louisville, Winchester, and Somerset, the now family of four settled in Danville, Kentucky where was on staff at First Baptist Church of Danville. A self-described life-long learner, he founded Faith Ventures, Inc. and built the Windjammer Skate-O-Rama which he owned and operated for 15 years as a source of wholesome family entertainment in Central Kentucky.
Eventually selling the Windjammer, he returned to his roots in Garland, Texas where he became reacquainted and married June Heath Castle on August 4, 2006. Their home has been one of love, laughter, dancing, and sharing life together since that date.
Sid Morris is survived by his wife of almost 19 years, Bobbie June Morris, June’s daughter Jane Ann Levene and husband Steve of Rowlett, grandson James of Huntsville and great-granddaughter Teresa. He is also survived by son John Morris and wife Terri of Waco along with grandchildren Meagan Beard and husband Ty of Waco, Maddie Wellborn and husband Art of Waco, and M.J. Morris and wife Caroline of Dallas and great-grandchildren Truett Beard, Turner Beard, Wesley Wellborn, and Ruby Wellborn. Additionally, daughter Karen McKlemurry of Melissa along with Grandson Jared McKlemurry and wife Tessa who are currently stationed in Kapolei, Hawaii.
A celebration of Life will be held at noon, with viewing at 11:30, on Thursday, April 17, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Garland, Dr. Greg Ammons officiating. Burial will follow in the Nevada Cemetery. Special thanks to Raini Day and Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home for the arrangements.
