Shirley Joan Wynn, 86, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022 in Plano, Texas. She was born September 28, 1935 in Prices Chapel Township, Sequoyah County, Oklahoma, the eighth child of Charley Robert Davis and Rebecca Jane Powell Davis. Shirley graduated from Sallisaw High School in 1952 and received a Associates Degree from Oklahoma University in Norman Oklahoma. She was married to Richard Lee Wynn the son of Harley and Naomi Wynn from Iola, Kansas on August 26, 1952 at the First Baptist Church in Sallisaw, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on March 26, 2018 after 66 years of marriage.
During Shirley's school days she was a member of the Sallisaw High School Choir, Future Homemakers of America and lettered in Basketball. She also enjoyed horseback riding and barrel racing. In her working career she was as a bank teller then in her early years of marriage while with her husband stationed in Germany she was a traveling companion around Europe for Mrs. Hilton of the hotel line. After her husband retired from the military she worked in property management for several private concerns until her retirement.
Shirley was devoted to volunteering in her community all through her life. She led various military wives bowling leagues as well as the NCO wives club, the Officer's wives club, Women that Wait [Vietnam era] and many family support groups for the Army military wives. After her husband retired from the military she was the president of the Oklahoma Depression Glass club for many years, upon moving to San Antonio, Texas she became the Queen of a local Red Hat Chapter and she hosted the Annual Red Hat Conversion in San Antonio Texas. Shirley's husband was an avid antique car buff and over the years they belonged to several antique car clubs. In 2003 they participated in the "Great Race" traveling from Detroit to Orlando Florida in their 1932 Plymouth.
Shirley is predeceased by her husband, parents and eight siblings; Oleta/Mose Sanders, Lillie/Grady Pinson, Charlie/Oleeta Davis, Velma/Tom Randolph, Doris/Kenneth Walker, Darlene/Carl Blount, Lawrence/Lucille Davis and Cherry/Bruce Carr.
Shirley is survived by her three children: Sheila D. Wynn Glass [Gene], Richard L. Wynn Jr. [Susan] and Rebecca N. Wynn Thill [Jerry]. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren; J.C. Glass, Ike Glass [Robin], Jason Lee Glass, Nathan Glass [Eleya], Richard Lee Wynn III [Sheba], Lara Meghan Wynn Venegas [Ray], Matthew Jared Wynn Wilkins, Justin Wynn [Cassie], Jewels Wynn, Barbara Thill Gipson [Victor], Jennifer Thill Boling, Michael Gaydos [Emily] as well as 22 great-grandchildren: Elijah Glass, Isaiah Glass, Elizabeth Glass, Cami Glass, Zachary Glass, Ethan Glass, Joshua Glass, Brianna Glass Horne [Brandon], Laurie Glass, Ember Glass, Aspen Glass, Lily Fryer Glass, Ezra Glass, Abigael Glass, Jack Glass, Judah Glass, Jacob Glass, Jude Wynn, James Wynn, Grant Boling, Hazel Gaydos, Kate Gaydos, an 2 great great-grandchildren; Logan Horne and Asher Horne and a host of Nieces and Nephews
A private burial will be at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.
