Shirley Ann Jones

March 15, 1938 — July 23, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Ann Jones. Shirley was born on March 15, 1938 in Collin County, Texas to Albert Royce Lawson and Beatrice Fay Lawson. Shirley's childhood was spent in Altoga, Texas where she acquired many fond memories of rural life at that time. Her elementary education in Altoga and Chambersville consisted of one room schoolhouses encompassing several grade levels. The family moved to McKinney, Texas and then to Marlin, Texas as her father opened and ran a bus line in Marlin. From Marlin, Shirley and family moved to Grand Prairie, Texas with Shirley graduating from Grand Prairie High School in 1956. Shirley married Charles Edwin Jones in January 1958 and moved to College Station, Texas as Charles was a student at Texas A&M. A year later, in January 1959, Charles and Shirley celebrated the arrival of their son, Key Randall Jones. Upon graduation from Texas A&M, Charles and Shirley eventually settled in Dallas, Texas with Charles establishing a successful architectural practice. During this time, Shirley's gifts as a caregiver were quite evident as she attended to the needs of her parents (Royce & Bea), Charles and Randall along with the family's pets and her plants. She had a green thumb and was an excellent cook! Shirley enrolled in College earning an Associate Degree in Sociology and coming up just a few hours short of a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology as she entered the job market before obtaining her degree. Shirley worked in the Trust Energy Department at Interfirst Bank in downtown Dallas. On a side note, she saw the filming of the TV show "Dallas" on a few occasions as the Interfirst Bank Building was the fictional home of the Ewing Oil Company. With the collapse of the oil market, Shirley worked for various estate sale companies. She enjoyed working these sales as she found many interesting items which she acquired for the house and also for gifts. Shirley lost her ability to work these estate sales due to the onset of dementia. Her condition slowly deteriorated resulting in the need for Hospice care. Shirley passed peacefully on July 23, 2020 at the age of 82 in Dallas, Texas. As Shirley's dementia progressed, she expressed her desire to return to her childhood home in Altoga to be with her parents, Royce and Bea Lawson. Shirley is Now Home.
