Dr. Sam Terry (Coach Terry), 84, of Wylie passed away Monday, February 24, 2025 at his home. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Charles Smith & Sons Funeral Homes with Dr. Albert Draper and Dr. Derek Draper officiating. A private family interment will follow at Lakeview Cemetery. Honorary Pallbearers will be Hayden Boyd, Joshua Freeman, Jacob Freeman, Luke Freeman, Reid Terry, Stayton Boyd, and Beckett Terry.

Dr. Terry was born May 24, 1940. Whether on the athletic field, the classroom, at home or anywhere, Sam made discipleship intentional. He was always direct about his faith and looked for opportunities to share it with others. Sam was the original influencer. His ability to encourage others to fulfill their potential was a gift. He valued the time he invested in every player, student, friend and family member and worked tirelessly to help others to not only find their strengths but utilize them for a bigger purpose. Sam had a genuineness about him that was rare and endearing, and he never missed an opportunity to express his love for the Lord and his belief in the goodness of God and His blessings. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Grace and Sam Terry, his brother, Jim Terry and his sister, Shirley Shields. 

Survivors include wife Anne Terry of Wylie; daughter Kelly Freeman of Caddo Mills; daughter and son-in-law Jocelyn and Eric Boyd of Wylie; son and daughter in-law Justin and Kyla Terry of Forney; grandson, Hayden Boyd and his wife Shae, of Nevada; grandson, Joshua Freeman and his wife Savannah of Coppell; grandsons Jacob and Luke Freeman of Caddo Mills; granddaughter Madelyn Boyd of Oklahoma City and grandson Stayton Boyd of Wylie; granddaughter Tatum Terry of College Station, and grandsons Reid and Beckett Terry of Forney; and numerous nieces and nephews.
