James "Russell" Stalcup, born December 10, 1947 in San Antonio, TX, went to be with our Lord and Savior on June 5, 2021 in Dallas, TX.
He was a proud 1967 graduate of Mesquite High School, and shortly after graduating he met Suzanne Bonner while working at Safeway grocery store. On June 28, 1968, one year after their first date, they married and would have three daughters and made their home in Garland, TX.
Family was the focal point of Russell's life, and the love and pride he had for his family was immeasurable. He never met a stranger. He was very out-going and truly enjoyed meeting people and getting to know them. From his next-door neighbors to the cashiers at the grocery store, he would strike up a conversation as if he were talking to a longtime friend. He would always end those conversations with a smile on his face and a twinkle in those blue eyes. Russell loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. Many years were spent making memories at the deer lease or camping by a lake, but some of his most cherished times were spent hunting. He loved teaching his daughters about the outdoors and everything that goes with that. From starting a campfire, handling a firearm, wetting a hook at the water tank to dressing out a deer, he cherished every moment and all the laughter. In the last few years, he especially enjoyed spending one-on-one time with his brother Keith on their hunting trips. Russell also loved to cook. Whether it was in the kitchen, on the grill or on the smoker, he was well known for cooking skills and everyone reaped the benefits of it! Falling in line with his love of people, Russell was a proud and active Mason and received numerous honors from his masonic brothers. Most recently, just a week before his passing, several of his masonic brothers came to his house and presented him with the Cornerstone Award. A highly prestigious award, he was very honored and moved to receive this honor in the presence of his family.
Russell is preceded in death by his parents, J. Harry Stalcup and Eulala "Eukie" Stalcup; and nephew, Brandon Wade Stalcup.
Russell is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Suzanne Stalcup; daughters Julianne Stalcup and Carrie Griffin, Jennifer and Shawna Scott, Jaclyn and Marisol Garza; grandchildren, Paulina Flores and husband Josh, Barrett Griffin, Blake and Brittany Griffin; 6 great-grandchildren, Noah, Emma, Melodi, Kynadi, Ezekiel and Baylor; sister LaVone Campbell and fiancé Larry; brother Keith Stalcup and wife Rose; sister Andrea Goodson; his beloved Aunt "Midge" Alice Lorraine Golanka and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made on behalf of James Russell Stalcup to the American Cancer Society and Washington Lodge (530 Lockwood Drive, Richardson, TX 75080).
