Robert Joseph Lanett, 93 years of age and living in Allen Texas, went home to his Father in heaven on January 6, 2025. Bob is preceded in death by his parents Christian and Helen Lump. Bob is survived by the love of his life, Doris “Dee” Ann Lanett, children Thomas Edmund Lanett, Nancy Elizabeth Patterson (Jeff), James Richard Lanett and grandchildren, Alexander John Jagger (Cecily), Ryan Alan Clark, Raleigh Nicole Fulks (Justin) and great grandson, Theodore Gray Fulks.
Bob was born December 4, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois. Bob graduated with a BS in Accounting from Northwestern University, then served two years in the US Army stationed in Japan prior to entering the management rotation program at United Airlines where he met Dee. They married and Bob planned a trip of a lifetime to Europe which remained a favorite memory. He and Dee lived in the Chicago area, raising their family and Bob completed his MBA while working at United. Bob moved his family to Plano, Texas where he worked in accounting and management for several companies before taking a position with Sears where he formed many lasting friendships. Upon retirement, Bob spent his time grandparenting, volunteering for various organizations helping youth and working part time as a docent for the Interurban Railway Museum in Plano giving tours to the school children. Bob enjoyed teaching, traveling, running, hiking, camping, music, watercolor painting and the Chicago Cubs. He was a member of the Sierra Club and Plano Art Association.
Bob’s health declined significantly over the past few years but through it all he continued to smile, laugh and provide a “thumbs up” and words of encouragement to others. Bob was a Christian and lived out his faith. He loved his family. He loved to help others and was generous with his time and resources. Bob also loved a good joke or play on words. He will be remembered for his servant heart, jovial spirit and hearty laugh. Bob will be missed by his family, friends and all those who shared in his life.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in his name to the Salvation Army of North Texas
