Rita Catherine DiValerio

October 25, 1932 — January 28, 2023

Sachse, Texas

Rita Catherine DiValerio, 90, of Sachse, Texas, formerly of Garner, North Carolina, passed away peacefully with family by her side on January 28, 2023.

Rita was born October 25, 1932 to Frank and Mary Fuchs (Krepps) in Harrisburg PA.

In 1950 Rita graduated from Little Flower High School.  Her junior year she met Albert at a party and they danced to Red Roses for a Blue Lady.  This became their signature song at all social events.  On September 8, 1951 Rita and Albert married and soon decided to move to Florida where they built their life working, volunteering, and starting a family.  They had 3 children; Daniel, Theresa, and Donald.  Rita was always on hand to support many interests of the family including Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church, Boy Scouts, and school events.  Being a mother was one of Rita’s greatest joys.

In 1995, shortly after Albert’s passing, Rita moved to North Carolina to be closer to family.  She worked at Mill Outlet Village as she was knowledgeable in sewing clothes and a variety of home projects.  Upon retiring in 2012, she became the Resident Manager at her senior living residence at Old School Commons and then again when moving to Chadwick.    The residence appreciated her commitment of organizing social events and caring for those who needed a friend.  She also volunteered at the Garner Chamber of Commerce.

In 2021 it was evident that Rita was struggling to live alone and her family moved her to Texas to live with her son Don and daughter-in-law Michelle.

Rita enjoyed being surrounded by family, watching game shows, playing Skip-bo, and going out to eat.  In October she celebrated her 90th birthday with dinner, family, and friends.  During the Christmas holiday she was blessed to have all 3 of her children together and by her side.

Rita was kind, caring, and the most giving person.  She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity.  Rita was a source of inspiration to all of us and will be deeply missed.  She left this earth peacefully as her granddaughter sang Red Roses for a Blue Lady.

Rita is preceded in death by her beloved husband Albert DiValerio, parents, Frank and Mary Fuchs (Krepps) her 3 older sisters, Margaret, Bernie, and Doris.    She is survived by her son Daniel DiValerio, daughter Theresa Wolk (John) and son Donald DiValerio (Michelle) along with 5 loving grandchildren, Michael, Amanda, Alec, Blake and Jenna and her great grandchild Hadley.

There will be a memorial service to celebrate her life at Charles Smith and Sons Funeral Home located at 2925 Fifth St., Sachse, Texas on Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 12:00 (NOON)  To view live stream go to
