Riley Dee Chandler, 71, of Garland, Texas passed from this life on March 9th, 2019 after an extended illness. He was born on December 3, 1947 in Littlefiled, Texas to C.P. & Nora (Evans) Chandler. He was a faithful and long-time member of the Campbell Road Church of Christ in Garland, Texas.
Riley was known for his wonderful sense of humor, always ready to have a great laugh. He enjoyed a home with a light-hearted atmosphere and practical jokes for all. Having been a farmer, he could work on just about anything and would love to explain how to do it to anyone who would listen or watch him diagram it out on the nearest napkin. Having been a soldier, his love of country was unsurpassed. He would still cry every time he heard the National Anthem and was very proud of his service years, even though they led to a life-long disability from which he suffered greatly. Having been a pumper in the West Texas oil fields, he was happy to be a vital part of the important chain of national energy. He found happiness in every line of work, but ultimately he was a farmer at heart. This can be seen in his back yard orchard and constant attempts to grow tomatoes in Dallas County.
He married Judy (Wilkerson) on November 15, 1972 in Midland, Texas, after having only met her 3 months earlier. That meeting turned into 46 years of a happy marriage, envied by many. Riley and Judy put God first in their marriage and took the responsibility of raising children who love the Lord very seriously as well.
Riley loved bluegrass music and learned to play the mandolin when he retired. It was a dream come true, although anyone who has ever shaken his hand would wonder how he ever managed to play such a small instrument. He also was a great friend and world-class encourager to many. Most people who met him not only remembered him, but remembered his name. His kind and warm personality were unforgettable. He was also very generous, seen taking pizzas to the firehouses or paying checks for police officers at restaurants.
Riley is survived by his loving mother; Nora (Evans) Chandler, his devoted wife; Judy (Wilkerson) Chandler, 1 son; Mickey and (Carol) Chandler, 2 daughters; Kelly & (Christopher) Rudy and Jennifer & (Dewey) Leitch. He is also survived by 1 brother; Tony & (Suzan) Chandler, 1 sister; Glenda Glover, 7 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Riley is also survived by a lifetime of church family, close friends and his best friend, Bill.
He was preceded in death by his father: C. P. Chandler .
