Rick Arthur Barensprung

June 24, 1955 — January 1, 2015

Rick Arthur Barensprung, 59, of Garland, TX died January 1, 2015 in Sachse, TX. He was born in Milwaukee, WI on June 24, 1955 to Roger W. and Sally E. (Lootens) Barensprung.

Rick earned a BS in Biology and graduate credits for an MAT in Science from The University of Texas at Dallas. He taught Junior High and High School Science for Richardson ISD for 30 years and retired in 2006.

Post retirement, he did freelance technical writing and entertained himself and others with his research and his teaching blogs. He loved all things nature and enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, and traveling to remote locales in New Mexico and Colorado. The infinite Universe was the ultimate playground for his mind, which kept him from ever getting bored or restless. He appreciated poetry old and new, listened to talk radio, and watched sci-fi. He also took great pleasure in laughter and in spinning a good long story or two.

He is survived by Marilyn Barensprung; his daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Lee Moreno; his daughter, Breanne Barensprung; his grandson, Evan Ashton Lee; his granddaughter, Scarlett Natalia Moreno; his sister, Christi Barensprung-Travis; niece and nephews; many longtime friends, neighbors, and coworkers; and thousands of former students.

Rick is preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, and his beloved brother; Clint Guy Barensprung.

Rick did not want a formal funeral/memorial service performed, but gave approval for a small gathering of family and a few close friends. He also requested to be cremated, his ashes buried, and the plot marked with a plaque stating "just the facts", so those who wished to visit might place flowers on his grave, because, he said, "I will see them." Rick's urn of ashes will be buried at Sachse Cemetery, 3033 6th St., Urn Garden 2, and available for visitation by early April.
