Richard Sanders, 69, formerly of Allen, passed away December 6, 2013. Born in Arkansas to Betty Lou and Earl Sanders, he spent his childhood in Benavidez, Texas and Plain Dealing, Louisiana. After playing football in college for two years in Arkansas, Richard made his way to Dallas and began a long career at Western Electric/AT&T in the mid-sixties.
Richard married Maggie Tobaben in 1980, and they made their home in Allen for seven years before he was transferred to Houston, San Fransisco and Memphis over a ten year period. In the mid-ninties, they settled "back home" in Allen. Richard had three children, Shannon, Tricia, and Michael, before he married Maggie, and during the eighties, they added two more girls, Sarah and Whitney, to their family.
Richard loved to talk and always had a twinkle in his eyes. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, travel, camping, Duck Dynasty, and watching westerns, but he LOVED LSU football.
Richard is survived by his wife, Maggie; children, Shannon, Tricia and husband Dennis Adkisson, Michael, Sarah and Whitney; grandchildren Heather and Ethan; sister, Janie Orton, as well as precious nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Charles and Otto, and sister, Patsy.
