Richard Kaschmitter

November 13, 1937 — January 6, 2018

Richard Carl “Dick” Kaschmitter, 80, was surrounded by family when he passed away peacefully at Methodist Richardson Medical Center, on Saturday, January 6, 2018. He was born on November 13, 1937, in Whittemore, Iowa to Richard and Mildred (Gerst) Kaschmitter. Dick grew up in LeMars, Iowa, where he graduated from Gehlen Catholic School in 1955. After high school, he served in the Navy for four years on the U.S.S. Toledo and then attended DeVry Institute of Technology in Chicago, Illinois. Dick worked as an engineer for Texas Instruments in Dallas for a total of 28 years. Dick married Bonnie Francine “Fran” Fails on December 21, 1963, in Dallas, Texas. They were happily married for 54 years and raised three children. Dick was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Columbarium Committee at St Joseph Catholic Church in Richardson,Texas. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, traveling, working puzzles, feeding the birds, and relaxing with family and friends. Dick is survived by his wife Fran; his son, Robert and his wife, Cathy, and their children: Todd, Carrie, and Troy; his daughter, Karen Patton and her husband, Dave, and their children: Katie, Missy, DJ, Janie, and Ricky; his daughter, Evelyn Steinke and her husband, Chuck, and their children, Ryan and Rachel. He is also survived by his siblings: Isabelle Laddusaw of Remsen, IA; Marilyn Bruzek of Circle Pines, MN; Fred of White Bear Lake, MN; Evelyn Black of Waukee, IA; Mike of Spencer, IA; Bonnie DeBoe of Hastings, MN; Susie Strouse of Huxley, IA; Carol Day of Arlington, TX; Jolene Burton of Victoria, MN; and Larry of Sioux City, IA, as well as brothers and sisters in law and many, many nieces and nephews. Dick is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Arlene Simmons of Quitman, TX.Dick will be remembered at a Rosary on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at 7:00 pm and at a Mass on Friday, January 12, 2018, at 1:30, both at St Joseph Catholic Church. Inurnment will be in the St Joseph Columbarium at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St Joseph Catholic Church Columbarium Fund.
