Richard Ivy Istre

Richard Ivy Istre, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 20, 2014.
Richard was born on January 26, 1926 in Jennings, LA to Ivy and Betty Istre. Richard lived in Jennings, LA and after high school enlisted in the Navy.

He attended Kingspoint Merchant Marine Academy and graduated with an engineering/business degree. He retired from the Naval Reserve as Lt. Commander. Richard married Margie Broussard in May 1946. After the war, Richard worked as an instrument engineer for Cities Service (Citgo) and Continental Carbon in Lake Charles, LA. They moved to Mesquite, TX in 1997. After Margie's death, Richard married Patsy Lee. At the time of his death, Richard and Patsy had been happily married for 7 years.

Richard loved music. From playing the trombone in high school to singing hymns in church, music filled his soul. Family was everything to him. With the marriage to Patsy, "Paw" enjoyed a large extended family. He loved his family and his "new" family and prayed for them daily. Richard loved the Lord with all his heart, mind, and soul. He was a "man of his word", never ceasing to give God all the honor and glory. He eagerly awaited the coming of the Lord.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Margie Istre.

Survivors:
Richard is survived by his wife, Patsy Istre; brother, Kenneth Istre and wife Patsy; son, Rick Istre and wife Jimmie; daughters, Melanie Smith and husband Jim; Stephanie Chance and husband Richard. Grandchildren; Michelle Lawrence and husband Kent, Brad Istre, Rachel Smith, Matt Chance and wife Jessica, and Russell Chance. Great grandchildren, Preston and Madison Lawrence.
