Richard Donald Dumais

September 3, 1935 — September 3, 2018

Richard "Dick" Dumais of Richardson, TX, passed away at 83 years-old from a brief battle with highly undifferentiated adenocarcinoma cancer on September 3rd at home surrounded by family and loved ones. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of fifty-four years Rosemary. Dick is survived by his brothers Clay and Phil and sister Ida Mae; four awesome children Dave, Steve, Laura (Bo McPartland) and Lynn; six grandchildren Dominique, Dillon, Tommy, Daniel, Sarah and Michael; and Trudy Young, his loving companion.

No ordinary man . . .

Our dad lived a full and exciting life. He was a successful entrepreneur, accomplished pilot, knowledgeable yacht captain, lifelong tennis and ski fanatic, avid Harley rider, world traveler and an amazing role model for his entire family. He was living the dream right up to the end of his life.

Born in Madawaska, ME, Dick left to attend his beloved St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Canada. He served in the U.S. Navy, followed in his father's footsteps in the clothing business and settled in Richardson, Texas in 1972. As if four young children were not challenging enough, he started Texas Moving Company in 1975 and it is still thriving to this day thanks to Dick's vision and sacrifice.

Everything he did he did with passion, dedication, vigor and heart. It is hard to summarize in words the essence of a man. He was tough but fair. He worked hard but enjoyed life. He was a man of the community MC'ing dozens of social, business and alumni events; always opening with a good joke or story, and he did it all well-dressed and on time!

His impact was felt far beyond his family, by hundreds of employees at Texas Moving Co., his customers, his breakfast group, the Knights of Columbus, St. FX alums, the friends in the neighborhood, his bible study group in Florida and the many Angel Flight patients he flew to hospitals for critical care.

He always demanded the best and gave many the greatest gift anyone could give another person: he believed in people! We will always carry his memory in our hearts . . .
