Richard (Dick) Atkins, 87, of Richardson, TX, passed away at home on Sunday, September 4, 2022. Richard was born on April 29, 1935 to Roy and Carmen Atkins in Norman, Oklahoma.
Richard moved with his family from Norman to Dallas, Texas where he graduated from North Dallas High School. He went on to proudly served 20 years in the United States Navy as an Air Traffic Controller on the USS Forrestal. Richard was a prominent member of the Navy Choir and had a love for music and singing that he passed along to his children. After retiring from the Navy, he went into sales and had an admirable career selling across various industries. Most importantly, he will be remembered for his love for those around him. Richard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Richard was known as someone who would always lend an ear and his counsel to anyone in need. He was an avid fan of the Oklahoma Sooners, Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. His sense of humor and quick wit will be missed, especially by his family and close friends.
Richard is survived by his wife, Beverley Atkins of Richardson Texas and their daughter, Amber Shaddox and husband Joel of Melissa, Texas; and daughters Sheri Barker and husband, Craig of Deltona, Florida, Teri Derma and husband, Ron of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, Christy Colgate and husband Mitchell of Osteen, Florida. Buffy Walker and husband, Tracy of Sorrento, Florida; 13grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren; and sister, Peggy Snyder of The Woodlands, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Carmen Atkins and grandson, Ryan Colgate.
Services will be held at the DFW National Cemetery on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at 2:30pm.
