Born April 2, 1921, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and passed away Easter Sunday, April 8, 2012 in Dallas, Texas. He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Juanita Louise (Arthur) (Stewart) Anderson, by son Charles Richard Anderson and wife Karen, and by son Ralph Martin Anderson and wife Terry, and three grandchildren, Austin, Bradley and Robyn Anderson. He was blessed with a wonderful extended family including daughter Cindy Bjorklund and her children Melissa and Erika Bjorklund and son David Stewart, his wife Karen, and their children Katie and Sean Stewart.
Andy enlisted in the Army in 1942 as a private having had to get his mother’s permission, rose through the ranks to proudly serve as the youngest Captain in the 352nd Engineering Regiment in the China, Burma, India Theater of Operations during World War II. He was very active in the China Burma India Veterans group, rising ultimately to be the National Commander.
Andy had a 34 year career as a petroleum engineer first for Sinclair and then for Arco, retiring in 1986.
Toward the end of his working career he discovered sailing and progressed through the ranks from deck hand on friends’ boats to proud Captain of his own ship, to Admiral having two boats. This was extraordinary inasmuch as he also loved driving and working on Model T Fords and was very active in the Dallas Model T Club. He and Juanita ultimately took the Model T to every state in the lower 48, seeing many sights and making many friends along the way.
Andy was a kind and generous man with family and friends and was good humored to the end of his days. He will be missed, but his love remains with us all and he will be remembered for a long life, well lived.
