In Memoriam: Raymond Sweeney, January 11, 1944 – November 19, 2023. He was 79.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. Raymond Sweeney, a dedicated husband, father, shepherd, friend, builder, and firefighter. He loved Jesus Christ and served his family with unwavering faith and integrity. He passed away November 19, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of selflessness and humility that will forever be etched in our hearts. He leaves behind his wife, Mary Sweeney, their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Born January 11, 1944, Raymond was a beloved spouse, father, son, sibling, and friend. He grew up in Rowlett and lived for years in Wylie and Lavon. He developed a passion for serving others from a young age. He graduated Rockwall High School and attended college at the University of Texas. He pursued a career in firefighting, driven by his sense of duty to protect and save lives. He started at the Dallas Fire Department in 1965 and retired in 2004. He served with pride at fire stations all over Dallas, working his way from the bottom up to captain. He then took his knowledge of Dallas Fire and applied it to working at its 911/311 operation. At his retirement, he managed 911 and 311 operations for the City of Dallas. During his “off days” with the fire department, he built houses and did remodeling projects around the area. He took a lot of pride in his work, and he could fix almost anything.

Throughout his life, Raymond was humble and fearless. He put his trust in the Lord above all else. Raymond was an active member of the Church of Christ. He was a long-time member at Cottonwood, Rowlett, Wylie, and Saturn Road Churches of Christ. He recently became a new member at Eastridge Church of Christ. He rightfully took a lot of pride in being an elder/shepherd at Saturn Road. His impact in this life reached far beyond his family, leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touched.

The funeral service to honor the life of Raymond will be held Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at 11 am at Eastridge Church of Christ, located at 670 N Stodghill Rd, Rockwall, TX 75087. The family invites friends, colleagues, and community members to join them in paying their respects and celebrating the life of this remarkable individual. Visitation will begin immediately before at 10 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Arms of Hope, reflecting Raymond’s support for those in need.

The Sweeney family expresses their gratitude for the outpouring of support during this difficult time. May Raymond rest in eternal peace, knowing that his legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched.
