Raymond Lee "Ray" Shelton, 81, of Murchison, Texas passed from this life on Monday afternoon, October 17, 2011 in Tyler Texas. He was born to Ruil Ernest Shelton and Nettie Florence Donihoo Shelton in Denison, Texas on October 14, 1930.
He was raised in Dennison where he graduated high school & later went to Abilene Junior College. Mr. Shelton volunteered to serve his country in the U.S. Navy for 4 years and fought in the Korean War.
He married Deloris Jean Shelton of Cranfills Gap, Texas on August 12, 1953. He worked for Bell Helicopter for 8 years and the Galleria in Dallas for 3 years. He was a commercial and residential painter thereafter and enjoyed creating yard art, toys and restoring antiques in his wood working shop at his residence after his retirement in 1997.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents and sister Marie Reeves & brother Johnny Shelton.
Survivors include his wife Deloris Shelton, Murchison and daughters Linda Cutshaw Umscheid & husband Tim, Kansas, Debra Morgan & husband Bill, Decatur Texas; sons Larry McFarland & wife Debbie, Waco, Ronnie Lee Shelton & wife Marti, Canton, Michael Todd Shelton & wife Carla, Canton. He had 14 grand children and 19 great grandchildren.
Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at Crossroads Cemetery in the Desert Community in Collin County, Texas with the Reverend Vernon Burgess officiating.
