On Thursday, December 12, 2019, Johnnie Ray Andrews, passed away at the age of 60. Ray was born on February 23, 1959 in Rockwall, Texas to Bonnie Harper and Leonard Cornelius. He grew up alongside his 2 brothers, Mathew and Mark and sister, Audrey. He graduated from Patagonia High School in 1977 and later attended and graduated from Stephen F. Austin University in 1984. In 1982 Ray met Donna Mae Marchetti and they married on December 16, 1985. Together, Ray and Donna shared a love-filled marriage of 34 years and will be together again in Heaven one day. Together they created a life with their two children, Joshua Ray and Rebekka Mae.
Ray was a family man with a love for the simple things in life. He enjoyed the outdoors and experiencing nature. Growing up, he would spend hours and sometimes days outside on the ranch walking, fishing, and hunting for snakes. He then passed this love on to his children by creating some of his children's favorite memories on their summer hiking adventures. He and his best friend of 44 years, Tim Buchanan, shared countless good times, which almost always included fishing and laughing hysterically. Ray loved to read and learn. There weren't many questions that he did not know the answer to. Ray was good with people; he had a compassionate heart that could understand trauma and mental illness. He used this gift to bless and help others volunteering for crisis helplines and various other counseling opportunities. Ray will be remembered by his laughter, quarks and simplicity by which he approached life with.
Ray was preceded in death by his father, Leonard, grandparents, Edwin C. Harper and Cecile Harper, and Craig Montgomery, nephew and husband to Tara. He is survived by his beloved wife, Donna Andrews of Wylie; Son, Joshua, and wife, Brittany Andrews of Nevada; Daughter, Bekka and husband, Hunter Dugan of Plano; Mother, Bonnie Harper of Rowlett; siblings, Mark, Mathew and Audrey; nieces, Bethany, Tara, Megan and nephews Jakob, Carson and Jason, husband to Bethany; great niece, Brooklyn and great nephew, Ivan; His best friend, Tim Buchanan of Blue Ridge. Ray was a soon to be grandfather to his two grandson's Jesse Andrews and Cameron Dugan.
Service will be held at Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Sachse, Texas on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at 2 pm.
