Phil Rickel of Richardson, Texas entered into eternal rest with Jesus Christ on January 20, 2024 with his wife and two children by his side. Phil was born in Wichita, Kansas to William Joseph and Louise (LeChein) Rickel.
Following graduation from Kapaun High School in Wichita, Kansas, Phil joined the U.S. Navy. Much of his time was spent aboard the USS Midway off the coast of Vietnam.
Phil and JoAnne met at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita and married in 1967. June 2024 would have marked their 57th wedding anniversary.
In 1971 Phil moved his family from Kansas to Texas to take a position with Electronic Data Systems in Dallas. He attended college in Richardson, TX, later earning and maintaining his Real Estate License. After 32 years at EDS, Phil ventured into a 2nd career at Grand homes.
Phil is preceded in death by his parents William and Louise Rickel, sister Mary Rickel, brother David Rickel and wife Cinda, nephew Michael Rickel, brother Dan Rickel and sister-in-law Marie Rickel, wife of Robert Rickel.
Phil leaves to cherish his memory, wife JoAnne, daughter Amy Drewery (Lonnie), Rockwall, Texas; son, Dennis Rickel (Christine), Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Emily Drewery, Gloria Drewery, Bailey Rickel and Aiden Rickel; brother, Robert Rickel, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, brother-in-law Charles Myers (Debbie) Broken, Arrow Oklahoma, sister-in-law Peggy Polsak (Frank), Pittsburg, Kansas and sister-in-law Carol Slack, Pittsburg, Kansas, and a host of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Phil’s life will take place at Charles W. Smith and Sons Funeral Home in Sachse, Texas on February 8, 2024 at 2:00 PM. An interment at DFW National Cemetery with military honors will be scheduled at a later date.
