Philip Bryan Morgan

Philip Bryan Morgan (he always insisted on the "Bryan" part) was loved by everyone who knew him: friends, family, new friends at the grocery store or restaurant … he was just that kind of guy.

Philip was a talented actor, dancer, and vocalist, and lit up stages at Six Flags (Crazy Horse Saloon, Southern Palace), Opryland (Country Music USA, General Jackson Showboat), Discoveryland (Will Parker in "Oklahoma!") and anywhere else he chose to perform … living rooms included.

In addition to his many talents as a showman, he was the epitome of warmth, lovingkindness, and generosity, and possessed a quick but gentle wit. He had a special light that drew people to him and kept memories of him bright for a lifetime.

Philip's light will live on in the hearts and spirits of everyone who knew him, including his dear friends from Opryland, Don Skelton, Mary Powers Riddle, and Shawn Hutcherson Odum, and his good friends from the DFW area, Lisa Boubel, Chris Arnold, Rob Hedgecoke, John Tate, Donovan Morrow and his husband Michael Connell, among many others.

Philip was preceded in death by his mother, Sue Morgan, and mother-in-law Verna Walker.

His surviving family members include his husband of 30 years, John Walker, father Frank Morgan, brother Richard Morgan and wife Melanie, brother Payton Morgan, sister and closest friend Susan Watkins, and sister-in-law Larissa Morgan, along with father-in-law Howard Walker, sister-in-law Julie Reid Martin and husband Cory Martin, nephews Tyler Reid, Ryan Andrews, Chad Andrews, Chandler Watkins, Brayden Watkins, Cade Morgan, and niece Savannah Morgan.

Philip Bryan Morgan was born in Dallas, Texas on June 29, 1963 to parents Jacqueline Sue (Hayes) Morgan and Franklin Claude Morgan. He graduated from McKinney High School in 1981 and attended Texas Christian University, where he sang in the elite Concert Chorale while studying music theater. He lived in Nashville, Tulsa, New York City, and Nashville (again) before returning to Dallas in 1989. He met his husband-to-be John in Dallas in 1990, and they lived life together for 25 years before marrying on June 29, 2015. Philip passed away in Dallas on February 27, 2022 after a valiant battle with interstitial lung disease (ILD).

Philip's generosity knew no bounds, but he was especially determined every year to donate to Toys for Tots. He loved Christmas, and wanted to share its joy with as many people as possible – especially children who might not be so lucky in receiving the bounteous gifts some of us are privileged to enjoy. In lieu of cards or flowers, those wishing to honor Philip could do no better than to donate to The Marine Toys for Tots Foundation in his name – he would have loved that.
