Philip Andrew Ashley

Philip Andrew Ashley, age 57 of Murphy, TX, passed away on May 24, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on April 29, 1960 in Guyana, South America to Walter and Alma (Langford) Ashley. Philip married Paula Butts on May 24, 1994 in New York, and they have lived in Murphy for 20 years. He worked at Verizon for 30 years as an engineer in telecommunications. Philip was a very ambitious man, and he always fascinated people with his knowledge on a broad variety of subjects. He always encouraged young people to get a top-notch education, because he knew how important and empowering it is for people to gain knowledge. Philip loved soccer and cricket, and he cheered for his favorite teams, which are Arsenal and Barcelona. Philip loved his family more than anything. They were his main focus in life. His passing has left a void that can never be filled, but his legacy will live on through his family and their memories of him.

Philip is survived by his wife of 23 years, Paula Ashley; three children, Khendra Ashley, Kobe Ashley, and Kamilah Ashley; mother, Alma Ashley; brother, Brian Ashley; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, far and wide; father-in-law, Oswald Butts; and sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law. He was preceded in death by his father, and his mother-in-law, Stella Butts.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Charles W. Smith & Sons Chapel in Sachse. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., prior to the service.
