Peter Genera, age 63, of Sachse, TX passed away at home on Sunday, April 5, 2020. He was born May 24, 1956 in San Francisco, CA. He graduated in 1973 from Galileo High School. He attended San Francisco City College and received an Associate Arts degree in the Hotel and Restaurant Program.
He met the love of his life, Lourdes Ramos while working at the Westin Paso del Norte Hotel in El Paso TX in May 1988 and they were married by Justice of the Peace on June 24, 1988 in El Paso, TX, and convalidated their marriage in St. Anthony Catholic Church on June 24, 2006.
His culinary career began as an apprentice with San Francisco's Chef Apprenticeship Program and was promoted to Sous Chef at the Westin Saint Francis Hotel. He went on to work for the Westin Hotels in Cincinnati OH and El Paso TX, as Executive Sous Chef. He then worked for Renaissance Hotels in Indian Wells, CA as Executive Sous Chef. He was promoted to Executive Chef at Renaissance Wailea Beach Resort, Maui, HI. He later transferred to Renaissance Dallas Hotel as Executive Chef. Then, he moved to the Chicago area where he worked as Executive Chef for the Ramada Plaza Hotel O'Hare, Rosemont, IL. He finally settled in Texas as Executive Chef for Renaissance Dallas-Richardson Hotel and the Coyote Ridge Golf Club, Carrollton, TX.
An avid fisherman. His love of the sport began as a young boy, fishing with his family off Muni Pier in San Francisco. He was also a certified diver, and a black belt in karate. He was an active member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church Community in Wylie TX and was affiliated with the Knights of Columbus Council 12300.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lourdes of Sachse, TX; children, Peter (Jaleen) Genera Jr. of Hayward CA, and Aisha Genera of San Francisco, CA; grandchildren, Sofia, Amaya, Michael, and Alex; biological parents, Pascual and Carmen Castro; siblings, Lena Celaya of Mesa, Arizona, Joe (Julie) Genera of Hayward, CA, Esther (Sam) Hernandez of Hayward, CA, Bess (Frank) Juarez of Mentara, CA, George Castro of Long Beach, CA, and Ed (Linda) Castro of Modesto, CA; nieces and nephews, Mandy, Teresa, Frank, Nina, Martin, Lisa, Mia, Erin, Marissa, Danielle, Priscilla, Elizabeth, Frank and Rachel. Godchildren, Rob, Aaliyah, Noah, Sebastian, Jonas, and Victor Jr. and extended family and friends.
Peter is preceded in death by his grandparents Raul and Anna Genera who adopted him at birth, and his nephew Sam Hernandez.
Also survived by his loving pets, Ruger and Lahela.
