Peter W. Bailey, 79, of McKinney, Texas, died peacefully at home on October 31st, 2019. He was born May 7, 1940, in New Haven, Connecticut, the son of the late David and Hilda Bailey of Woodstock, Vermont. He is survived by his wife, Sue Bailey, who he married on April 10, 2010.
He graduated from Harvard University in 1962. He moved to Thailand to serve in the Peace Corps and worked for UNICEF. He was a teacher among many and taught at the Texas Commission for the Blind in Tyler, TX, Notre Dame Special Schools in Irving, TX, and taught ESL for Dallas Community Colleges. In addition, Peter worked as an interpreter in the Asian refugee project affiliated with El Centro College. Later in life, he worked as a substitute teacher throughout northern Texas.
He was known as the man about town and was very involved in his community and served on the Historic Preservation Board, Parks and Recreation Board of McKinney and was a devoted member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his two daughters, Gwendolyn Bailey of Brussels, Belgium and Lauren Bailey and son-in-law Thomas Mauchien of Houston, TX; his son and daughter-in-law Philip and Alison Bailey of Hursley, United Kingdom; grandchildren Oliver and Maddie Bailey; son and daughter-in-law Christopher Bailey and Pia Bailey of China; grandchildren Adele and Oberon Bailey and grandaughter Lena Bailey; stepdaughter Cece Clemens; step grandchildren Samaria and Berlin Clemens; stepdaughter Suzanne Louzau; grandchildren Alexander and Zachary Lee.
