Peggy Marie Calhoun was born in Dallas January 4th, 1943. To Florence Burgess and Jess Calhoun. Her father was a mechanic and her mother was a homemaker. She grew up in Dallas and had two younger sisters and a brother. She grew up initially on main street near downtown Dallas and she was raised in the Lutheran Church. Her parents moved to Pleasant Grove in the 40s where all six of them lived in a 2-bedroom house.
She met James “Jim” Brown while walking home from school one day. He stopped and asked her if she needed a ride. She didn’t accept the ride but apparently, she made an impression because they ended up dating and they were married at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Dallas. After the birth of their first son, they purchased a house on Fresno Street near her parents where they lived for the next 37 years. Peggy worked for over 30 years in the vending industry where she made many lifelong friends. They raised two sons James Brown and William “Billy” Brown. Upon the passing of her husband she moved to Nevada, Texas. She adopted and raised her grandson Caden Brown as her son. She spoke of my dad often and remained faithful to him until her death.
Peggy was a kind gentle soul who loved and was loved by everyone. With that being said she was fiercely loyal to her family and had the heart of a lion when defending her family. Peggy had the heart of a servant. If someone was in trouble, needed something to eat, needed something to wear or just a shoulder to cry on Peggy was often the first-person there. She was the mom of the neighborhood and often took care of our friends as if they were her own.
Peggy enjoyed doing embroidery and when she was younger, she enjoyed going dancing with her husband on Saturday nights. She also enjoyed fashion and clothes. Peggy adored her mother, father sisters and brother. She remained friends with each them throughout their lives and hers. She also adored her grandkids, great grandkids, nieces and nephews and their children. She would talk for hours about what was going on in all their lives. Peggy died February 11, 2025 in Dallas after a long battle with heart disease.
Peggy is survived by her sons James Brown and Wife Lesley of Merit Texas, Caden Brown of Nevada, Sister Florence Prince and husband Dennis of Scurry Texas, Grandchildren Madison Brown, Natalie Davis and Taylor Duran and their families. Great grandchildren Bode Davis Baker, Audrey Duran and Atticus Duran. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Stacey Williams, Steve Rainey, Annie Tubbs, Russell Calhoun, and Abbey Haas and their families.
Rejoicing with Husband James Brown, Son William Brown, Mother Florence Calhoun, Father Jess Calhoun Sister Betty Rainey and Brother Jess Alexander Calhoun.
