Garland, Texas - Patricia Ann Mapes, 82, of Garland, Thursday, July 19, 2012, in the wee hours of the morning, her angels came and took her on her journey home. She is now at peace.

Born Mar. 11, 1930, in Columbus, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Gordon Eugene Mott and Charlotte Kerr Mott. She graduated from Conemaugh Township High School, Somerset County, PA. She was preceded in death in 1979 by her husband of 30 years, Herchel Jay Mapes and in 2011 by her younger brother John Gordon Mott.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Melody Gay Dodd and husband Ray of Garland, Tex, brother James O. Mott and wife Elizabeth of Wilmington, NC, sister Marjorie Mott Smith and husband George D. of Garland, Tex, grandson Raymond Jay Dodd and wife Dawn of San Jose, California, granddaughter Jenny Ann Wood and husband Kirk of Sachse, Tex, great-grandchildren Andre and Tyler Dodd of California, and Andrew and Harmony Wood of Sachse, Tex. and a host of friends.


Mrs. Mapes served as a purchasing agent for Collins Radio in Richardson working on the Apollo space program, later owning The Book Exchange and operating a Western Union Agency, and finally serving as a quality control supervisor at Continental Electronics in Dallas before retiring.

She was a member of New World United Methodist Church, was a member of the women’s bible study Bible Babes, and participated in the Lord’s Acre.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 11:30 a. m. at New World United Methodist Church 5134 Northwest Hwy Garland, TX 75043 and there will be a reception with food at the church following the service.
