Otis Clifford Davis passed from this life into his heavenly home on October 13, 2011 at his home in Princeton, Texas following an extended illness.
He was born December 5, 1917 to Sylvester Earl and Ida Mae (Smallwood) Davis.
"Cliff," as he was known by his friends, grew up in Princeton where he graduated from Princeton Schools in 1937.
He married Oretha Lowry on August 17, 1940 and at his passing they were married 71 years. Cliff and Oretha raised 2 daughters Marian Niell and Rita Wilson.
He served 3 ½ years in an Army Tank Battalion during World War II and part of that time under General George Patton Third Armored Division in Europe.
Cliff was employed by Texas Department of Transportation Engineering Division over 30 years. While employed by TXDOT he served several years as a director of Texas Public Employees Association in Austin, Texas.
He served a short time as trustee on the Princeton Public School Board.
He was a member of the Princeton Lions Club for over 50 years serving in several official capacities. He was a member of the Culleoka Water Board where he served as president and as secretary.
Cliff was a member and served as deacon of Princeton’s First Baptist Church for over 50 years. He served his Lord in many different ways and his Lord was always first with him.
Visitation will be 5-8 pm Saturday, October 15 at Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 601 S. Tennessee St. in McKinney.
Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Princeton on Sunday, October 16 at 2pm. Interment will be at Ridgeview Memorial Park in McKinney following the service.
Survivors include wife Oretha Davis, daughters Marian Niell and husband Tom Niell of McKinney, Texas and Rita Wilson and husband James Wilson of Brandon, Mississippi, grandsons Christopher Niell of Princeton, Jeffery Niell of McKinney, granddaughers Karen McGrath of Rowlett, Texas and Stephanie McGehee of Florence, Mississippi, seven great grand children and one great-great granddaughter.
Cliff was preceded in death by his mother and father and 3 brothers.
