Orla "Bud" Dwight Brown
Orla Brown of Fairview, Texas, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013, after a heroic battle with cancer.
He was born June 29, 1930, in Gentry, Arkansas, to Floyd and Gladys Brown. He graduated from Gentry High School and Oklahoma A & M University with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War. He married Betty Holmes on February 2, 1957.
Orla was employed by and retired from Collins Radio/Rockwell International. He served as Mayor of Fairview and President of Lovejoy School Board.
He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Fairview; his son, Jim Holmes and his wife, Pat, of Plano, Texas; his son, Steve Holmes and his wife, Laura, of Kilgore; his daughter, Lorie Gillean, and her husband, Rick, of Austin; and his son, Ron Brown, of Wylie. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Sarah Gillean of McKinney, Zach Gillean of Benbrook, Rebecca Brown of Wylie and great granddaughter, Emma Boltonhouse, of Wylie.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home from 6 - 8 p.m.
The funeral service is Friday, May 24, 2013, at 10 am, Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home in McKinney, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to First United Methodist Church in Allen, Texas.
