My dear and loving mother was born on April 29, 1930 in Lichtenau, Austria, near the medieval town of Haslach. She passed away on January 22, 2014 in Garland, Texas, age 83.
She met her husband to be, a young American soldier, while working at a USO in Germany. In 1958, she married Normal Samford Jr. and settled in Garland, Texas. In 1962, they adopted a baby from Hope Cottage who they named Brent.
Betty worked for Complete Clinical Laboratories in Dallas and later became a purchasing agent for Baylor Hospital of Dallas. She then worked for Methodist Hospital of Dallas until 1993. She also worked part time at Jan's Bakery in Wynnewood Village for five years.
Mom loved music, especially Viennese waltzes, opera and Elvis. She also loved to travel and took trips around the country with her friends and with her son's high school band. She returned to Austria with her son to visit her family in 1967, 1988, 1991 and 2012. In later years, she spent more time with her son, Brent R. Samford, his wife Jane, and her beloved granddaughter, Madeline Claire Samford of Rowlett, Texas, who are left to cherish her memory.
In Austria, Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Franz and Franziska Obermuller and her brother Karl Obermuller.
