Neva Lewis, 82, went to be with her Lord on January 24, 2014, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Neva was born on July 21, 1931 in Telephone, Texas to Douglas and Eva Magness, joining older brothers Royce Magness and Wayne Magness. After graduating from Bonham High School, she moved to Dallas to attend Draughn's Business School.
In 1950, she met Robert (Bob) Lewis on a blind date. They were married in 1952 and in 1955, welcomed a daughter, Pam. Neva and family lived in Dallas for several years, during which time she was an executive secretary at different companies, including Oak Farms Dairies. She was also an active member of East Temple Baptist Church.
In 1967, they moved to South Florida where, in addition to making a new home and raising her family, Neva continued her career. She went to work at Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Atlantis, Florida, where she ultimately became executive secretary to the Administrator and Board of Directors of the hospital.
In her spare time, Neva was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Lantana, Florida where she served in many capacities over the years. She also enjoyed bowling, bicycling, water skiing, growing orchids and going to the beach. In 2005, Neva and Bob returned to Texas to be near their daughter.
Neva is survived by her devoted husband of 61 years, Bob Lewis; daughter, Pam Lewis; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Cruey; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to thank the management, staff and especially the caregivers, at Autumn Leaves of North Garland for the gentle and loving care shown to Neva during her time there.
Donations, if desired, may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
