Nancy Callahan

August 21, 1933 — December 13, 2021

Nancy Callahan was born in Shreveport, LA, on August 21, 1933. Much of her adult life was lived in Muncie, Indiana, the home of her first husband. She raised 2 daughters, Debra and Donna, and one son, Craig. She loved cooking, joining a Homemakers Club that allowed her to share some of that skill with other women.
Her desire was always to teach. As her children reached their teen years, she earned her BA degree and began teaching Home Economics at Southside High School in Muncie. She moved to Muncie's Northside High School as the head of the Home Economics department when it opened, and when it closed, moved back to Southside to finish her career. During this time, she wrote curriculum used in various schools throughout Indiana and served on a team of teachers who evaluated and advised Indiana high schools.
She married Guy Callahan in 1965, gaining 2 more sons, Gary and Greg.
Over four decades, she embraced various ways to serve in First Baptist Church and Grace Baptist, both in Muncie. The last opportunity was that she and Guy led a Bible study group in their home after their retirements.
Guy and Nancy moved to Texas in 2002. They wanted to be closer to family, and their children were scattered, living in four different states and the UK. Texas was the choice, probably because the first great-grandchild had been born there! All of the grands and greats dearly loved her. They were active in the two churches their son-in-law pastored during their time in Texas.
She is survived by:
All 5 of their children: Gary Callahan of Lakeland, FL; Greg Callahan (Sally) of Muncie, IN; Debra Hochgraber, Little River-Academy, TX; Donna Peterson (John) of Shelbyville, TN and Craig Hastings (Rose) of Oklahoma City, OK.
7 grandchildren: Deanna Reese (Wallace) of Rogers, TX; Dori Brown (Jimmy) of Rockwall, TX; Katy Callahan and Kara Staton (Mike) of Muncie, IN; Kyleigh Vrettos (James) of Murfreesboro, TN; Chad Hastings and Joel Hastings (Annie) of Oklahoma City, OK.
8 great-grandchildren: Alyssa Polnac, Wesley and Wyatt Reese, Carter and Maci Brown, Allie and Emmie Staton and Violet Hastings.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Guy in December 2012.
