Nadine Kirkland, 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 16, 2024 passing peacefully in her sleep. Nadine was born in Dallas, Texas on September 30, 1934 to Fred Joel Johnson and Marion Ruth (Little) Johnson. She graduated from Adamson High School in Oak Cliff, Texas.
Nadine married Don Kirkland and they had four boys, David, Paul, Philip and Kevin and lived their early years in Richardson, Texas. They later moved to Mancos, Colorado, where they owned and operated a guest ranch and returned to Texas and settled in Van Alstyne.
Nadine lived a full and eventful life. She enjoyed traveling, painting, cooking, gardening and taking care of her family and friends. She was a fun-loving person with a great sense of humor. She was always up for a party and was an excellent cook and gracious hostess. Nadine published two cookbooks and bought and sold antique toys for many years at Cobwebs Antique Mall in Plano, Texas. Later in life, Nadine moved to Winnsboro, Texas to be near her sister and brother. While in Winnsboro, she was active at the Pine Street Baptist Church and finally returned to Plano, Texas to be near her friends and family.
Nadine was preceded in death by her mother and father; brother Richard Johnson; son Kevin; daughter-in-law Tammie (Hix) Kirkland; granddaughter Lauren (Kirkland) Holt; and grandson Will Kirkland. Survivors include her sons David Kirkland and wife, Dewana, Parker, Texas; Paul Kirkland, Lucas, Texas; and Philip Kirkland and wife, Wanda, Lucas, Texas; sister Gerry (Johnson) Bearden of Winnsboro, Texas; granddaughters Amber Aguilar of Oklahoma City, OK; Lindsey Kirkland and Chris Rentfrow of Rockwall, Texas; grandsons Jake Kirkland of Heath, Texas; Austin Kirkland of Decatur, Texas; and great grandson Timothy Daxton Holt of McKinney, Texas.
Family and friends will be received during a visitation at Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home, 2343 Lake Road & Highway 78, Lavon, Texas on Thursday, June 20, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. with graveside service and internment immediately following at the cemetery on site.
