Myrtle Combest, age 87, of Garland, Texas, passed away February 2, 2014 in Dallas, Texas. She was born November 8, 1926 in Farmersville, Texas to Franklin and Myrtle Boughton. Myrtle accepted Jesus Christ as savior as a child and walked with Him all the remaining years of her life.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, J B Combest; parents, Frank and Myrtle Boughton; five sisters and five brothers.
She is survived by a brother, Franklin Boughton of Houston, TX; sister, Tampa Palosi of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Tena Lynn Smith and her husband, Terry Lynn of Garland, TX; sons, Travis Combest and wife Cristy Lynn of Berne, IN; and Ron and wife Mikki of Garland; twelve grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
Mom and Dad were married on December 23, 1944. Mom worked for Sanger Brothers in Dallas, TX following graduation from Blue Ridge High School and until Dad was discharged from the US Navy in 1946. Following dad's discharge, Mom became a cotton farmer's wife until Dad took a job at the Dallas Ford Plant in 1949 and moved to their home in Garland, 1951. Mom was living at this same Garland home at the time of her death.
Miss Myrtle served the Lord as a church nursery teacher and Sunday school superintendent in the 2 year old departments from 1951 through 1989. We kidded with her that, for a period of time, every child in Garland had had Miss Myrtle as their Sunday school teacher. And, due to the hand gestures of the Zacchaeus song, each child believed that Zacchaeus was a wee little man of 6 inches tall.
Our mom was the sweetest of all moms anywhere. She shared her home, her love and her time with all of our families, friends, and visitors. Even in her dementia during the last year of her life her spirit was almost always light hearted and whimsical. She was always most happy to see and welcome visitors even as she lost memory of most of them and us.
We love you, Mom.
