Monty Owen Loyless

November 20, 1956 — April 19, 2022

Monty Owen Loyless, 65, passed away on April 19, 2022 in Sachse, Texas. He was born on November 20, 1956 in Valley Station, Kentucky, to Lester Loyless Jr. and Doris (Cormney) Loyless. Monty was raised in the Louisville area before leaving Kentucky to join the United States Marine Corps at the age of 18.

Monty served in the military for six years, achieving the rank of Sergeant. He received numerous awards while in service, including the Navy Achievement Award for developing and implementing a critical piece of supply software, designed and coded "almost entirely alone and on his own time." But perhaps his proudest moment while serving, was winning the affection of his lifelong love, Mary Jacobs. Monty and Mary's love and dedication for one another sparked a 47-year bond. A bond based on love, respect, and care. Truly one another's best friend, Monty and Mary's lives often intertwined beyond distinction.

After marrying in 1976, Monty and Mary gave birth to their only child together, Monty (Nick), before moving to the Dallas area in 1980. While in Dallas, Monty began his 35-year-long career with Mobil Oil at the Southwest Computer Center, later to become ExxonMobil, where he held a number of roles within the Global Data Center before his retirement in 2017. His occupation brought him great pride and many friendships. Monty's colleagues remember him as a hard-working servant, a fair-minded and caring manager, and loyal friend.

Monty's retirement was spent planning road trip adventures with his wife Mary, daily devotionals and Bible study in the early mornings, and celebrating the birth of his granddaughter, Lucia Loyless, born in 2021.

Monty will be remembered as kind-hearted and helpful. He was always the first to offer assistance to anyone in need: family member, friend, neighbor, or stranger. His positive disposition encouraged others to share their thoughts and provided an opportunity for Monty to touch their lives. His legacy will be carried on through the example that he set for others, and through the likeness of Christ that he exhibited daily.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; his son, Monty Nicholas and wife Jennifer; granddaughter Lucia; his father, Lester Loyless Jr. and wife Victoria; sister Vicki Sumler and husband Greg, brother Todd and wife Sonja, brother Jeffery and wife Kim; stepdaughters Jovanna Almquist, Julie Douglas, Jacqueline Harris and husband Wayne, Kimberly Rose, and their many children, to which he was known as "Papaw." He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

Monty is preceded in death by his mother, Doris (Cormney) Loyless and stepson, Scott Jacobs.
