Michael John Harmon

Michael John Harmon, age 76 of McKinney, Texas, passed away on September 11, 2017. He was born on May 14, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan to Louis Anthony and Agnes R. (McGarry) Harmon. Mike served in the U.S. Army Reserve during the Vietnam Era, and he married Patricia Beattie on April 4, 1970 in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Mike was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity at the University of Michigan, where he graduated with both a Bachelor’s degree in business and his MBA. He worked in sales for more than fifty years and had a great work ethic. The word “retire” was not a part of Mike’s vocabulary. His career took the family all over the country, and he made many cherished friends who shared his love of good times.

Mike enjoyed his work, but he had many other interests. He was a lover of all sports, as he came from a family of athletes. He was a marathon runner, and he liked to play tennis and golf. And we can’t forget his beloved Michigan Wolverines as he was always ready for game day. “Hail to the Victors” was often heard in the Harmon house. Although he had his work and sports to keep him busy, his family was always his top priority. Papi, as he was known to his family, spent countless hours with his grandkids and enjoyed going to their sporting events and school performances. His family will forever cherish their memories of his quick wit and one-liners, but most of all, of his enduring love that he bestowed upon them.

Mike is survived by his wife of 47 years, Patricia Harmon; son, Kevin Harmon and wife, Anna and children Peyton, Morgan, Anthony, Liz and Amanda; son, Mike Harmon and wife, Shannon and children Brady and Jake; daughter, Megan Shirk and husband, Andy and children Henry, Maggie, Ellie and Lily; son, Tony Harmon; brother, Dennis Harmon and wife, Sue; sister, Susan Wiermaa and husband, Mike and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Agnes Harmon.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 29, 2017 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 8000 Eldorado Parkway, Frisco, TX 75033. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to either the American Heart Association or Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
